What is GLOBEMASTER.DE and what kind of information do you offer?
The GLOBEMASTER US Military Aviation Database is a web based service providing information about the active aircraft operating units and air bases of the US forces around the world. We offer several search engines to find

We also maintain comprehensive aviation related link directories and some special sections such as News, GovSearch, a gallery, a C-17 information section, selected books, personnel locator information etc.

The name says it all - it is not a website for entertainment or surfing around, it is a database offering pure information.
The service of GLOBEMASTER.DE is free. All webpages are accessible without any registration.

Where can I find closed Air Bases or disestablished units?
Our databases consist mainly of units and military bases in active duty.
Nevertheless there are records of some important, often searched disestablished units included.
On the bottom of our pages you can find Related Links, which might help you to find other useful webpages. You also can check our Aviation Link Directory or drop us a line with your query.

Why do you have so many search boxes on GLOBEMASTER.DE?

GLOBEMASTER.DE consists of several databases. Each of them has a search engine to create customized output pages for your queries plus an Advanced Search page. You will find the database search engines easily, when you follow the website navigation on top of each page.
We also created a Website Search Engine. You can find it on our homepage and on http://www.globemaster.de/search.html
This one will match your query against the full text of our HTML-documents, but NOT against the content of our databases. The Website Search Engine should help you out, when you get lost on GLOBEMASTER.DE. Generally we recommend to use the Navigation on top of our pages.

I don't get any results on my queries. What can I do?

The most common reason for no results and failed searches are typos or simply bad spelling. Our database search engines are very error resistant. In many cases you get a result even when your spelling was wrong.
The website search engine is not that intelligent. On http://www.globemaster.de/search.html you will find some tips on how to improve your search results.
Here are some simple rules to make your query successful:

  • Make up your mind, what you are actually looking for and read the quite clear titles in the navigation bar. It's probably easier to follow the Air Bases link on top of any page, than searching for a certain air base in our website search engine.
  • Type your queries in lower case. In this way you can be sure that it matches lower case AND upper case records.
  • Just type as few terms as necessary in the search box. You can refine your search later. AH-1 gets better results than "Bell AH-1G Super Cobra", Ramstein might be better than Ramstein AB, especially when you don't know if it is AB or AFB. It also helps you to avoid misspellings. Why going for "Army Installation Camp Lejeune North Carolina", is there more than one "Lejeune"?
  • Take care that you add the necessary blanks to your query.
FortKnox is considered ONE word and won't match our Fort Knox record.
  • Avoid abbreviations like Ft. for Fort or FL for Florida. It's better either not to type it or use the meaning of the abbreviation.
  • Units are recorded in the pattern 555 FS (Air Force and Army Units) or VMFA-112 (Navy and USMC Units). Military bases follow the pattern AAF Allen, AFB Altus, NAS Pensacola, aircraft are listed like F-16, C-17, AH-64. Using these patterns increases your chance to get the desired results.

If you are not sure about the spelling of your query do the following:

  • Make sure the checkbox Exact Field Match is unchecked. Now you can type just parts of the word. If you don't know the exact spelling of AFB McChord, just type mcc - you will get 4 results instead of one on our Air Bases Search Engine, but that's better than NO results, isn't it?
  • Every database search engine has a link "Index". It guides you to a plain text list of the considered database. You can browse through this short version to find the correct spelling.

If all else fails, you always can write us and we will assist in your search.

Are there any advanced search options or hidden features?
All database search engines offer an "Advanced Search" link. Here you can refine your search or perform more complex queries.
Example: You'd like to find out. if there are Special Operations Forces located in Florida, flying the C-130 Hercules.
  • Go to the Air Force Units Search Engine (SkyUnits)
  • Click the link "Advanced Search"
  • Enter "so" in the Unit field (will match Special Operations Wings ### SOW and Squadrons ### SOS), "florida" in the State field and "c-130" in the Aircraft field and click "View Records".

In this way the quite unusual and detailed queries are possible.

The Website Search Engine offers advanced options and tips on http://www.globemaster.de/search.html

The Air Base Search Engine offers a CONUS State Map where you can get all air facilities listed by state.

I can't find a page again that I visited earlier. What can I do?
The most pages contain a navigation bar on top of the page. If you get lost, it is always the best idea to go back to the Homepage (usually the most top left link on our pages) and read the table of contents.
We also offer a SITEMAP. It is a vertical navigation bar showing you in a frame the structure of our most important pages. You can keep it on the left of your browser window while you surf on our pages. You can close it easily, when you click on the little Close Frame Template icon on top of the Navigation Bar.
On the Homepage you also find a Website Search Engine, where you can search for all public web pages on GLOBEMASTER.DE.
NOTE: This search engines matches only the readable text of our HTML-documents, but not our databases.

Feel free to mail us, if you miss certain content.

Why do you have flashy banners and popups on your website?

GLOBEMASTER.DE is a private website, built and maintained in Germany.
Actually we started it in 1998 just for personal information exchange. During the years it became one of the most comprehensive databases of its kind on the web.
To improve the service and the usability we decided to manage a web presentation with all options the internet offers nowadays (search devices, database inquiry systems etc.) Of course this is not for free. We got into the odd situation, that we offer a worldwide service and even have to pay for it ourselve.
That's why we had to think about several options how to refinance our website. Well, we didn't want to exclude certain users. That's why our website doesn't work on a registration basis where you have to pay for the content.
For now we decided to join a banner advertisement program. The advertisement banners shown on our website are 3rd party served. We have no influence on the rotation of the several banners shown on our website. However we are able to exclude certain campaigns. We know that some of the banners are quite annoying, some use popunder windows, others are flashing like mad on your screen.
Well, our main objective is not to make money with our website, but to satisfy our visitors and offer the best possible service.

If you feel like supporting us without paying a penny, just ignore the ads. We don't force you to click them at all. Just close the popunder windows when you leave our website. There shouldn't occur any problems while using our website.
However if you ever encounter a very bad or annoying advertisement on GLOBEMASTER.DE, don't hesitate to e-mail us. Send us a short description of the banner (what did you see, company, link, screenshot etc.) and we will get rid of it as soon as possible.
